Laura Baxter

Course Manager and Lecturer Animal Management

Laura is a Course Manager at UCAB, but is originally from South Africa where she worked in Johannesburg Zoo as elephant keeper and then moved out to work on a Private Game Reserve. She has been teaching on HE animal courses in the UK for over 20 years while also doing several volunteer roles including speaker for whale and dolphin conservation and marine mammal medic, as well as working as a consultant for a variety of other Universities, checking their academic quality. She is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and is also a Bee keeper producing local honey.

Research Interests

Laura leads on mostly science based modules such as Biological sciences and Anatomy and Physiology but also has interests in animal ethics, welfare, research and behaviour. Laura has studied Marine Biology, Game Ranging, Eco-tourism Management, Animal Management, Teaching and Management, and has an MSc in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Laura has supervised over 200 student research projects, helping them to successfully attain their degrees. She is currently interested in invasive species spread, differences in ethical perspectives when it comes to animal treatment, and relationships between practical animal studies and student achievement.
