Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park welcome three new Scottish Wildcats

Exciting native news! Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park is celebrating the arrival of three Scottish Wildcats, Fruin, Mog and Morangie! These felines joined the park from Highland Wildlife Park and are settling in really well in the brand new Natives section.

Once distributed throughout the UK, this Wildcat is now only found in remote pockets of the highlands due to habitat loss and persecution listing the species as critically endangered in the UK.

Instructor Keeper Ryan Colman has been working closely with the trio to ensure they adjust well to their new surroundings.

He shared β€œIts an honour to welcome Fruin and her two kittens, Mog and Morangie from Highland Wildlife Park, with Fruin being one of the most successful breeding wildcats in the country with almost all her kittens successfully being reintroduced into Scotland. These cats will give the students an opportunity to work not only with an apex predator but with a threatened species that is in desperate need of help from the British Public, with chances to also be involved in exciting opportunities such as their training, while learning about the plight of our native species.”

Visitors can be among the first to see the new arrivals during the park’s opening hours on weekends and school holidays. Don’t miss this special opportunity to witness these extraordinary felines up close and learn more about efforts to save their species.
