You’ll gain the practical and theoretical expertise needed for clinical practice and animal management while developing skills in handling and assessing the health of varied species.

at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above, must include English and then either Maths or Science with a further two at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C). Level 2 functional skills qualifications for English and Maths may be considered dependant on age.

This one year Level 3 course combines a Level 3 Practical Animal Care course with a Certificate in Animal Nursing at Level 2.
The combined programme enables students to develop underpinning knowledge of the physiological workings of the animal in addition to basic nursing care, treatment and the prevention of disease.
Course Themes:
A small portfolio of work-related skills forms part of the assessment of this course, along with examinations, tests, assignments, presentations and practical assessments.
Students must also undertake a work placement for a minimum of 150hrs.
Note: For future study, should students wish to be considered for the Level 3 Diploma, work experience must be undertaken in a veterinary practice.

The course allows students to experience both Veterinary Nursing and Animal Management aspects. From this, they can then make an educated decision on their preferred continued study.
Students are required to hold a GCSE grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) in English Language, plus three additional GCSE grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) qualifications (equivalences will be considered), of which Maths or Science should be included.
Students are required to have undertaken two weeks voluntary work in any animal-related setting. This will be supported with a satisfactory reference from this provider.
Successful graduates of this course can apply to complete the City and Guilds Extended Technical Diploma in Animal Management, or for those that have secured either employment of an apprenticeship position in a veterinary practice, they can apply to study the level 3 Diploma Veterinary Nursing course.

Progression and Development Sessions
All students enrolled on a Level 2 or Level 3 course will be required to attend Progression and Development sessions every week. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics from careers and employability, British Values and equality and diversity to essential life skills such as mental health and wellbeing, drugs and alcohol and personal safety.
