This one year Level 3 course combines a Level 3 Practical Animal Care course with a Certificate in Animal Nursing at Level 2.
The combined programme enables students to develop underpinning knowledge of the physiological workings of the animal in addition to basic nursing care, treatment and the prevention of disease.
Course Themes:
- Animal Biology
- Nutrition and Feeding
- Husbandry related practical and theory skills ( handling and accommodation)
- Introduction to Animal Nursing ( disease control, pharmacy and treatment, parasitology, anaesthesia and fluid therapy)
- Maths where applicable ( where a resit is required)
A small portfolio of work-related skills forms part of the assessment of this course, along with examinations, tests, assignments, presentations and practical assessments.
Students must also undertake a work placement for a minimum of 150hrs.
Note: For future study, should students wish to be considered for the Level 3 Diploma, work experience must be undertaken in a veterinary practice.
Why choose us?
The course allows students to experience both Veterinary Nursing and Animal Management aspects. From this, they can then make an educated decision on their preferred continued study.
