What you will learn

You will be exposed to the fundamentals of animal husbandry, welfare, behaviour, physiology, conservation and management, guided by expert academics dedicated to your success. This course is not just about theory; our programme places a strong emphasis on skill development, from honing essential communication, IT, and teamwork abilities to mastering practical skills such as animal handling, health assessment, and behaviour evaluation. This programme offers students the opportunity to study a range of animal species

You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in real-world learning experiences through work placements, where you’ll gain invaluable on-the-job training which could further enhance your employability. Whether you’re training animals, designing animal accommodations, or assessing animal welfare and husbandry these placements can provide a crucial bridge between classroom learning and professional practice.

Your learning would also be facilitated through access to a range of range of on-site resources, including a BIAZA accredited wildlife park, Equestrian Centre, Commercial Farm and a Science Centre with specialist laboratories.

Key Information

Applicants should have achieved:

  • 48 UCAS Points (2024/25 entry)
  • 64 UCAS Points (2025/26 entry)

β€’ 5 GCSE’s including Maths English and Science at Grade C/4 or above. Equivalent qualifications may be accepted in lieu of GCSE’s. Applicants must have successfully completed a full Level 3 study and/or have significant industry experience.

Some students may be asked to attend an interview.

 

Applicants who believe they may be eligible for Accreditation of Prior Certificated and/or Experiential Learning (APCL/APEL) will be considered on an individual basis.

On successful completion, students may wish to consider progressing onto one of the University Centre’s top-up courses, (BSc Animal Management, BSc Animal Conservation, BSc Zoo Management or BSc Canine and Feline Behaviour and Welfare) allowing students to graduate with a BSc or BSc(Hons) degree.

Students alternatively may wish to consider careers in a variety of industries focused on animal management, animal nutritionist, animal health inspector and or animal charity work.

Non-EU Overseas Students on Honours Degree/ Foundation Degree/ Extended Foundation Degree – Β£14,000

This programme requires students to undertake 300 hours of work placement over the 2 year duration of the course. Work placement is completed with an external provider which is arranged by the student.

All work placements are subject to a health and safety check by the college to ensure that placements are suitable and safe. Support can be made available via the the course team and careers department to help locate a suitable placement.

 

If you are already working in the sector, it may be possible to APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) this element of the course. Evidence of such employment will be needed, outlining duties etc for consideration at the APL panel, where applications will be considered on an individual basis.
