This course is not just about theory; practical skills are at the forefront of our programme. Hone your communication, academic writing, and teamwork abilities, while mastering essential tasks such as behaviour monitoring, running behaviour classes, and assessing animal welfare.

Extended FdSc Canine and Feline Behaviour and Training Programme Specification 2025
Key Information
For admission to all courses, students must have achieved passes (Grade 4 or above, or equivalence) in a minimum of five GCSE subjects including English, Mathematics and Science or have passed a Level 2 Diploma.
UK based students may be invited to attend an interview at Askham Bryan College and places will be subject to a satisfactory reference and may also require satisfactory completion of an assessment.
Equivalent qualifications may be considered.
Applications from mature students are welcomed. Applicants will be assessed on individual experience.
On successful completion, students may wish to consider progressing onto one of the University Centreโs animal related top-up courses, allowing students to graduate with a BSc or BSc(Hons) degree.
Students alternatively may wish to consider careers in a variety of industries focused on animal management, animal nutritionist, animal health inspector and or animal charity work.

Non-Home (Overseas Students) on Honours Degree/ Foundation Degree/ Extended Foundation Degree – ยฃ14,000
โฏStudents need to complete 300 hours over the three years, with 50 of those being in the first year. Work placement is completed with an external provider which is arranged by the student.ย ย
All work placements are subject to a health and safety check by the college to ensure that placements are suitable and safe. Support can be made available via the module tutor to help locate a suitable placement.ย
If you are already working in the sector, it may be possible to APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) this element of the course. Evidence of such employment will be needed, outlining duties etc for consideration at the APL panel, where applications will be considered on an individual basis.
