RHS Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture
This qualification is aimed at professional horticulturists seeking to advance their knowledge or move into a management or specialist role. It is also suitable for passionate amateurs with some prior learning and/or experience. It is a highly valued qualification which provides the skills needed to widen opportunities and boost career progression. The RHS Level 3 Diploma consists of three separate qualifications, as outlined below:
- RHS Level 3 Certificate in Practical Horticulture
- RHS Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth, Garden Planning and Applied Propagation
- RHS Level 3 Award in Horticultural Investigation*

*RHS Level 3 Award in Horticultural Investigation
This qualification has recently been approved for delivery by Ofqual, however it has not yet been released by the RHS for enrolment. Therefore, we are not currently able to offer this component of the RHS Level 3 Diploma.
Key Information
This is a theory-led qualification and is delivered primarily through classroom-based learning with some practical tasks. It covers a wide range of horticultural knowledge and understanding including:
- Horticulture Heritage
- Plant Knowledge
- Plant Selection and Cultivation
- Plant Propagation
- Garden Styles and Specialist Areas
- Productive Growing
- Gardens Management
- Gardens, People and Spaces
Assessment consists of:
- Two written examinations, which take place in February (Unit 1) and June (Unit 2)

Recommended previous horticultural qualification or relevant experience
Applicants are normally expected to have a level 2 already in English and Maths.
