Askham Bryan College apprenticeship students win four awards at the Land-Based Environment Learner event

At this years prestigious Land-Based & Environment Learner of the year awards, Askham Bryan College learners scooped fourΒ awards, the most of any college in the United Kingdom.Β 

The ceremony recognised outstanding talent and achievements across multiple areas of the land-based and environment sector, celebrating excellence from learners in further education and higher education, as well as those undertaking apprenticeships within the sector.

Our winners from Askham Bryan College were:

Erin Wright: Overall winner of everything titled β€˜Land based & environment learner of the year’

Erin Wright: Agriculture learner of the year

Gerant Jenkinson: Arboriculture, forestry and woodland management apprentice of the year

Will Roberts: Environment, conservation, game and wildlife apprentice of the year

Erin Wright, last but not least our double award winning Further Education Agriculture learner who scooped the overall Further Education Land-Based & Environment Learner of the Year & Further Education Agriculture Learner of the Year. Erin took her first steps in to the sector when working on a family farm, before moving to live on-site at the college in 2022. Erin quickly became a rising star within the industry achieving high grades within numerous modules. More recently, Erin can be seen working for Morrisons as a Degree Apprentice within the Livestock sector.

Gerant Jenkinson was named the winner of Arboriculture, Forestry and Woodland Management Apprentice of the Year, after completing a 2 year Arborist apprenticeship. This award was fitting for Gerant who was beginning a career change having never worked in the industry prior to enrolling on the apprenticeship in 2022, and since then has gone on to be a finalist at the North Yorkshire Awards before scooping this national accolade.

Will Roberts was named the winner of Environment, Conservation, Game and Wildlife Apprentice of the Year, after being one of the first enrolments in the United Kingdom on to this apprenticeship, he complete with exemplar results. Will has been working to a high standard within the sector recently, including undertaking his own management of hectares of land!

A fourth individual, Will Edkins was also a finalist of the Land-Based & Environment Learner of the year awards, within the agriculture apprenticeship category for his fantastic work on the Livestock Unit Technician Apprenticeship.

Commenting on the Awards Ceremony, Prof John Moverley OBE, Chair of Judges for the LBEL Awards, said:
β€œIt’s been another fantastic year where we have been able to celebrate the success of learners and apprentices within our sector. We had 196 nominations this year, which was brilliant! There are so many inspiring stories from nominations and it’s an honour to be able to celebrate their achievements and passion this evening. Congratulations to all winners and finalists!”
