Askham Bryan College to deliver industry training to Young Farmers through funding partnership

Askham Bryan College is delighted to be able to offer partly funded places on a range of agricultural industry courses to their current students and members of Young Farmersโ€™ Clubs living or working in North Yorkshire.

The concessionary rate of up to 80% off these course opportunities including Tractor Driving, Pesticide application and Forklift Handling has been secured for farming students by the Yorkshire Food Farming and Rural Network (YFFRN). It is part of a new programme of activity that uses legacy funding secured from the Partnership Investment Fund Limited by YFFRN to offer a training support programme for the benefit of rural and farming SMEs.

Madge Moore, who is the Chair of the Yorkshire Food Farming and Rural Network at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society says of the partnership:

โ€œThis is an excellent opportunity for young people to obtain training and certification that is financially supported in key subject areas that are essential to have as you progress through your farming career. All of these courses help to raise awareness of the need to operate safely and within the required legislation, providing an essential foundation for any career in agriculture.โ€

Askham Bryan students studying on one of the range of agriculture courses in livestock and crop production, as well as members of the Federation of Young Farmersโ€™ Clubs are able to benefit from these heavily reduced industry tickets to improve their employability and skills for when they enter the workforce.

Askham Bryan College T-Level Agriculture student Sophie Chapman said of the opportunity,

โ€œIโ€™m doing this ticket because these kinds of licenses are required nowadays and having them will make me more employable when Iโ€™m looking for jobs, such as in New Zealand or America.โ€

Ava Tait, another Agriculture student taking up the reduced-price training said,

โ€œInstead of paying the full price for the training, the college covers most of the cost through the partnership funding, so you only have to pay a small amount. Plus, itโ€™s all within college hours on college days, making it a lot more accessible than going elsewhere to get it.โ€

These courses are delivered at Askham Bryan College in York overseen by Head of Commercial Kate Rowland who says.

“The cost of these industry courses can be a barrier to young farmers, we are thrilled to be working in partnership with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and Young Farmers Clubs in North Yorkshire to deliver this incredible opportunity to our agricultural students. The courses will not only provide them with confidence, but it will also enhance their skills and provide them with additional qualifications alongside their course which will support them into employment in their next steps.โ€™โ€™
