Two Wins at the Yorkshire Learning Providers Awards
2nd February 2024Askham Bryan College were pleased to be recognised as winners in two categories at the recent awards ceremony hosted by Yorkshire Learning Providers. The awards, which held at York Racecourse on Thursday 25th January 2024, mark the Yorkshire Learning Providers’ 20th anniversary and celebrate the work of its member training providers.
The College was announced as the winner of the Outstanding Green and Sustainable Award (sponsored by NOCN). The Green & Sustainable Development Award celebrates those training providers that go above & beyond in ensuring that their business & provision are fighting towards net-zero & carbon neutrality. Our award was in recognition of a project launched alongside our catering subcontractor Aramark to promote our strategic aim of sustainable development and to reduce the waste associated with single-use ‘e-cups’ scheme at our College catering outlets. The scheme encourages the use of reusable cups, which contain recycled material and are fully recyclable, demonstrating a circular economy and reducing the waste that we produce. The scheme also promotes and develops sustainability habits in for students and staff, which they can apply in their lives beyond college, further widening the impact of the scheme.
Jo Scott, from the Askham Bryan Veterinary Nursing Team won the award for Outstanding Business Development (sponsored by the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network for Yorkshire and the Humber). This award recognises Jo’s contribution to the development of veterinary nursing placement visitors, building effective relationships with training practice staff and the successful outcomes of students. During her time at College, Jo has forged strong relationships with many, often small, independently run businesses. These relationships with employers and businesses are an integral part of veterinary nursing provision, providing robust and meaningful opportunities for our students to develop their skills and competencies in order to become registered veterinary nurses. Not only fulfilling qualification achievements, our graduating students are contributing to high standards of animal welfare within the Veterinary sector.
