Matthew Anderson

Course Manager of the FdSc Management of Animal Collections with Conservation

Areas of expertise lie in Marine Biology and Animal Behaviour, with a specialism in Marine Mammal Behaviour.

Matt studied his MSc at the University of Exeter, where he studied the Southern Resident Killer Whales using camera drone footage in order to assess their group dynamics and surface percussive behaviours. He has also worked with the Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute in Northern Spain to assess Dolphin reaction to vessels and how it impacted area use.

Research Interests:

My research interests lie in Animal Behaviour (Wild and Captive) – including group dynamics, communication, and interaction with anthropogenic factors – and Marine Biology. In particular, my interests focus on (but are by no means limited to) Marine Mammals – specifically Orca and Bottlenose Dolphins. I also stronly push for the use of UAVs (Camera Drones) to aid behaviour study.
